Something Sweeter...

My 18th birthday bonfire cake!

It was pretty special so I spent forever on it. I started with a three tiered gingerbread cake sandwiched with ginger and treacle syrup. Which was then covered with 3 layers of ginger buttercream, in the colours of fire. The board was then covered with black treacle and orange icing and covered in black and orange sprinkles. The cake was then surrounded by orange chocolate logs and the marzipan guy Fawkes was coloured and placed proudly on top. Time consuming!!!!

Terry and Vince's 50th Birthday Cake

This cake took alot of time and patience!!!! Oh and drying time, the squash racket, wine bottle, bacardi bottle and cricket bat were all individually shaped and painted from regal icing. I cheated with the macaroon and cheese lump (tescos' thou art my saviour!!!) once made and dried the items were arranged using a ridiculous number of cocktail sticks on the top the fruit cake. Oh the cake itself was a fruit cake with marzipan and fondant icing. Then lastly the black writing occured, taking many attempts on a plate first!! and finally black rosettes were added and studded with silver balls!!! it took an age!!!!

The Cookie Crumble Magic Fudge Slide Cake

THIS CAKE WAS FUN TO MAKE!!!
It began with a chocolate fudge sponge, which was then sandwiched with fudge icing. Then the magic began the cake was literally drowned in chocolate fudge icing, hot icing I should add, before crushed cookies were crumbled on top. Finally Magic stars, chopped chocolate coated fudge and white sugar decorations were placed on the top for that little bit extra.
Overall it was a STOCKED cake!!!

Victoria Sponge

The victoria sponge is a little different to the basic sponge because it has a fresh fruit decoration.
It consists of a vanilla sponge sandwiched with buttercream and strawberry jam, oh and I like to add some fresh strawberries in the middle too, I think it looks pretty! Then it is topped with a little icing sugar and some fresh whole strawberries.

It is simple and classic, and easy and quite nice looking go to for afternoon guests or a sunday lunch.

Simple Sponge

This cake is a little boring compared to my usual concoctions! I am not entirely sure whom it was made for but personally I think it lacks the pizzaz factor. The plainness will have been on their request :(
The cake itself is just your basic vanilla sponge with a vanilla buttercream and strawberry jam filling then dusted, or rather snowcapped in icing sugar. Oh and then some candles for the birthday soul.
Tad boring....?

George's Spider Web Gateaux

Yet more of my brothers birthday cakes!! This time it was a chocolate gateaux which was decorated to the MAX!
It started with a chocolate sponge, which was sandwiched with chocolate butter cream and black fruit jam..Then the outer was smothered in a layer of chocolate butter cream before being bedazzelled with chocolate sprinkles. The top surface of the cake was then adorned with white icing, and chocolate drizzle was used to create a web effect look. The marzipan spider was then rolled, coloured and constructed on top before the cake was finally finished with some chocolate butter cream rosette variations.

George's Skateboard Birthday Cake

This is another cake from many moons ago, I made this one for my brother George's Birthday. Back in the days when he was still into skateboarding, rather than x-box vegetation.

Again I can't remember exactly what the cake was, my memory is truly awful! But I am guessing that it was a simple vanilla sponge cut into a oblong shape with a smaller brick wall underneath. Then decorated using coloured fondant icing and silver cake paint. The trickest part was getting the cake to rest on top of the wall without breaking in the middle!!

My Mum's 38th Birthday Cake

My Mum's 38th Birthday Cake
This is a cake from many moons ago, I was 11 when I made it (Jeez, that was a while ago!) From what I can recall it was a basic victoria sponge with Orange or Lemon Buttercream frosting and Violet decorative rosettes and such.

My passion for baking has been around for as long as I can remember and to this day I still insist, so long as they will let me, that people let me make them birthday cakes. Heck I even make my own! I think my mum liked this one, the photo says more words that people do though!!!
